Talking it Over: Knight Takes Pilots Seat for Boeing Negotiation

Boeing has promoted its chief labor negotiator Doug Kight to become a vice president of the corporation, and is moving him to company headquarters in Chicago.

Doug is the son of Bud and Joyce Kight of East Wenatchee, a graduate of Wenatchee High School. A lawyer, he has been with Boeing for 23 years, rising to head its labor relations. His new position is head of human relations, benefits and compensation for the entire company.

A story in The Seattle Times on Tuesday recounts the decision of the company to open a new assembly line in North Carolina.

It says, “Both Kight and Boeing’s top leadership in Chicago treated the (2008 machinists) strike as a final straw, demanding a forceful response that couldn’t wait until the next round of regular contract negotiations four years down the road.”

The Times described Kight as a “soft-spoken lawyer.”

Doug went on to Whitman College and Hastings law school of the University of California before joining Boeing.
